AC-ADDI-6 Prepare elevations for residential drawings. 6.1 Explain the purpose of elevations. 6.2 Sketch elevations. 6.3 Create elevation drawings with labels and dimensions to include: roof slope and overhang, type of roofing, door and window location, and porches. 6.4 Demonstrate the use of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software related to preparing elevations for residential drawings. 6.1- The purpose of elevations are to show the structure of the house and it lets you know if they're are any problems. Elevations are 2-D documents that show many things and help construct a building, they come in sets of 4 including North, West, South, and East. It also helps put door, windows, and even porches in the right places with the labels and dimensions. It informs the builders as well to make sure the materials are right and give a view that can be compared to what they see. 6.2- I have sketched 8 elevations since beginning this pathway. I know how to construct them and if I ever need to reference one to check if mine are right, I have many that I can check with. 6.3- In the 8 elevations, I have included labels describing roof slope and type of roofing as well as dimensions that describe location of doors, windows, porches, and other things that are helpful when building. 6.4- I have also constructed CAD documents for the 8 elevation sketches which include, color differences, hatching, dimensions on anything needed for someone else to construct the same document, and labels to describe the materials in the document. My future goals related to this unit are to construct more elevations with houses I design. I would also like to learn more about elevations and their uses.
